our mission
The Akin Program creates opportunities for Arts participation in targeted rural communities, for girls aged 10-18. We want to create an opportunity for every girl who puts her hand up saying I want to learn to use my voice.
2022 workshop series
The 2022 AKIN program will see three leading Toy Choir members accompany the delivering team of professional female artists to five selected locations to facilitate the city-country cross-aged workshops. Over the course of a day, each girl participating will have created a story, learnt how to structure it, and write it as a song. An audio-visual artist will be on site to capture the girls’ creations and together, they will create an accompanying video clip.
The members of the House create a safe environment that supports the vulnerability of the creative process, which is established and nurtured by all leaders and participants. While direction and assistance will be offered to the students, peer based learning is key in honing and capturing the girls’ talents.
This project has been assisted by the Australian Government through CREATE NSW and the Australia Council for the Arts, its arts funding and advisory body.
